Spanish families are usually affable, loyal, faithful and hospitable and their duty is to create an affective and welcoming environment where you can feel at home during your stay.
The experience of each student is unique, as there is no such thing as a typical family. You may live with a family with children, a married couple or a single person who may be an older widow or a single businessman or woman.
Students generally feel that the homestay is one of the most enriching parts of the study abroad experience. You make a much smoother transition when trying to adapt to a new environment and language with the help of locals.

If you come to Madrid with an open mind and willing to learn a new culture, you will have an enjoyable and unforgettable experience.
Some students may request an alternative to host family accommodation in the case of a compelling reason or special circumstance, authorized in advance by parents or guardians and by SU Abroad or Home University.

I can still remember when I was back in Syracuse finding out that I would be living with a host family. Millions of thoughts came to mind: What if I don’t get along with my Senora, what if I don’t like the food, what if she thinks I’m crazy?...
