History of Study Abroad at Syracuse University
Syracuse University has a long history of international education, beginning with a study abroad program in China in the 1920s, to post-WWII faculty led tours in Europe and programs in Latin America through the 50s and 60s, to the launch of the SU Madrid in 1972.

The Mission of SU Madrid
SU Madrid seeks to develop world citizens through innovative engagement with the local Spanish culture and society. Students will be active participants in our courses, study tours and extracurricular activities and they will develop a greater understanding and appreciation of Spanish history, art, religion and society.
